Wine Bar + Retail Shop Design/Build, Culver City

February 19, 2013

Design and build for custom wine racks, spirits racks, dividing green wall, tasting bar, tables, and retail counter for Bar & Garden, a Culver City shop specializing in organic/biodynamic wines and small batch liquor.  The clients had a background in landscape architecture and gardening, so wanted a rustic/modular feel that would be complemented by accents of live plants and garden paraphernalia.

The majority of the construction was built from reclaimed old-growth douglas fir beams that (supposedly) were removed from a house that Frank Sinatra once owned.  The tasting bar is a live-edge slab of Bastogne Walnut, also called Paradox, a rare cross between an English Walnut and Black Walnut species.

Concept design and layout:

Green wall

To create a hallway to the bathroom, the divider wall originally was to be a green wall of live plants, among the shelving.
